Red Kites, majestic birds once gone from wales, but an intensive breeding program allowed them to be reintroduced in the past few years, and they are fairly thriving. Anyway theres a bit of a story behind these shots, you might want to get a cup of tea before you start. I decided "Its sunday and its not raining, lets go somewhere on the Flying Strawberry" (my motorbike). So I packed my bag, D800 with 50mm lens, tripod, some ND filters just in case of long exposures, and my 28-100mm lens and out the door I go. Half way to the Storey arms in Brecon I get the notion I didn't put my camera in (I had, it was the first thing that went in, I'm just paranoid) so a bit of self assurance at a set of traffic lights and I carried on. Once I got to the heads of the valleys after coming off Llwydcoed mountain, it started raining, Right ticked off with that, I almost went "Sod it, lets go home" but once I got on the A470 and I saw Brecon was clear I felt a bit better and carried on. Coming up on the second reservoir, Strawb starts sputtering and dies, so I pull over and give her a good check over and after finding nothing obviously wrong, send a call for help (after taking a few pictures of the misty mountain obviously) I perform the few basic checks described to me by my stepdad (who is a bike mechanic) I have no tools on me to do anything complicated. Anyway for reasons I don't understand it starts and I get going, I manage to get just past the Storey arms, its splutters and dies again so I and pull in, I'm actually where I wanted to be, so I make the best of it. During a little wander up the road I see a few kites in the distance and wish I brought my 70-300mm lens, next time I will. They were at first way too far even for heavy cropping so I kept admiring the scenery when all of a sudden, the feathered beastie was close, I snap a few pictures before birdie had the mountain behind it. After a bit more wandering I decide to see if I can get Strawb going and head home, she starts without too much effort, so I head for home. Darn think dies again, and again, and again, but this time it point blank refuses to start, so after a rescue call and after a long wait on a cold and windy hillside, I get rescued and the sodding bike is fixed up enough get home.
